Sustainability
At Gilead, sustainability is embedded into our culture and throughout our operations and supply chain. We're committed to discovering, developing and delivering medicines in a way that positively contributes to environmentally sustainable outcomes. We recognize the connection between environmental sustainability and human health as we work to build a healthier, more equitable world.
We set ambitious environmental targets and have robust programs in place across the four focus areas where we can have the most impact: carbon, water, waste and product.
Sustainable Research and DevelopmentThe ability to incorporate sustainable business practices while executing complex scientific processes is core to how Gilead operates. This sustainability focus is embedded across all of Gilead’s laboratory and manufacturing operations, from integrating the 12 principles of green chemistry throughout the small molecule development process to our work on cancer treatments.
As we engage our scientists to build on our sustainability culture, we align with the principles outlined by the nonprofit group My Green Lab® (MGL), a globally recognized certification program for scientific laboratory sustainability. Hundreds of researchers have participated and we've achieved MGL certifications across multiple facilities.
Responsible Medical DisposalAs part of our commitment to responsible medication disposal, we are proud to support Medications Return Programs managed by Health Products Stewardship Association (HPSA).
To learn more about properly storing and handling pharmaceuticals and medical sharps or finding a collection location near you, we encourage you to visit the HPSA website at www.healthsteward.ca.
